Pork and Apple Lettuce Bun Burgers

This classic combination of pork, apples and sage comes together in this burger, which is not only delicious, but low in carbs as well, with lettuce replacing traditional burger buns.

Pork and Apple Lettuce Bun Burgers


Servings: 24

6 lb lean ground pork 

3 cups Lucky Leaf® Premium Clean Label Apple Fruit Filling or Topping  

2 cups finely chopped sage, loosely packed 

1/3 cup minced garlic 

1 tbsp salt 

1/4 cup butter 

12 medium onions, sliced 

1/2 cup olive oil 

24 slices smoked Cheddar cheese 

48 medium-size lettuce leaves 

24 slices tomatoes 


Special Sauce: 

1 cup Musselman’s® Premium Apple Butter  

2 cups mayonnaise 

1/4 cup grainy Dijon mustard 


  1. In large bowl, combine ground pork, Lucky Leaf® Premium Clean Label Apple Fruit Filling or Topping, sage, garlic and salt. Shape into 24 patties, each about 4 inches in diameter. Set aside.
  2. Melt butter in large pan set over medium heat; cook onions, stirring occasionally, for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and caramelized.
  3. Meanwhile, melt 1 tbsp of oil in large skillet set over medium heat; cook 4 burgers, turning once, for 6 to 8 minutes or until browned and cooked through. Place slice of cheese on each burger in last 2 minutes of cooking. Repeat with remaining oil, burgers and cheese.
  4. Special Sauce: Whisk together Musselman’s® Premium Apple Butter, mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. 
  5. Place 24 lettuce leaves on work surface. Top each leaf with burger, slice of tomato and caramelized onions (1.25 oz/burger). Drizzle with sauce (1.15 oz/burger). Cap with remaining leaves to make sandwich. 


Replace Smoked Cheddar with regular sliced Cheddar cheese if desired.
