Apple Cranberry Chutney

Apple Cranberry Chutney

A simmered mixture of onions, garlic, Apple Slices, dried cranberries and Apple Juice is mixed with vinegar and ginger to produce a sweet and sour spread-able condiment that can be used to accompany roasted or grilled meats or veggies as well as a spread for sandwiches.

Apple Cranberry Chutney

2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups chopped sweet onions
1 tsp. minced garlic
1 qt. Musselman's Apple Slices
1 cup dried cranberries
2 cups Musselman's Apple Juice
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp. minced fresh ginger
1/8 tsp. red pepper flakes

  1. In a non reactive saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat; add onions and sauté 3 minutes until tender and translucent. Stir in garlic and continue to cook 1 minute.
  2. Add Apple Slices, cranberries, Apple Juice, vinegar, brown sugar, ginger and pepper flakes and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, for 15-20 minutes or until mixture thickens slightly and apples begin to soften. Remove from heat and allow it to cool to room temperature. Place in lidded container and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  3. Use as an accompaniment to grilled or roasted meats, poultry, game or vegetables.
