Apple Cherry Walnut Crostata

Comfort food gets an update with this irresistible apple-cherry dessert.


Servings: 24

Pie Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp salt

1 lb cold unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup ice water


8 cups Lucky Leaf® Premium Clean Label Apple Fruit Filling or Topping

2 cups dried cherries

2 cups toasted chopped walnuts


1 egg

2 tbsp coarse sugar

1 tub (1.5 quarts) vanilla ice cream


  1. To create the homemade Pie Dough: Preheat oven to 400°F. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt. Working quickly and using fingers, work butter into flour mixture until mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-size pieces.
  2. Add ice water all at once. Using fork, stir until dough starts to come together; shape dough into 3 equal rounds. Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until firm.
  3. To create the Filling: In bowl, combine Lucky Leaf® Premium Clean Label Apple Fruit Filling or Topping, dried cherries and walnuts; set aside.
  4. On lightly floured surface, roll out each round into 12-inch circle. Using 6-inch round cookie cutter, cut out 24 rounds. Grease two 12-cup muffin tins; press each dough round into muffin cup, leaving 1/2 inch overhang. Divide 11 cups filling among muffin cups.
  5. To create the Topping: Beat egg with 1/4 cup (2 oz) water; brush over edges of dough and sprinkle with sugar. Crimp edges decoratively.
  6. Bake for about 20 minutes or until crusts are golden brown and flaky. Serve with scoop of ice cream (1 oz/serving). Top with remaining Filling (2 tsp/serving). Sprinkle crostatas with cinnamon sugar if desired.

Note: Alternatively, you can use frozen "ready-made" pie dough. Start by thawing out the pie dough as Step 1 and skip to Step 3 and 4 to make your filling and roll out the dough as per the directions in Step 4.
