Frosted Apple Sauce Raisin Bars

Whether a snack or dessert, these rich bars are chock full of Apple Sauce, raisins and spices and are simple to assemble and bake and they hold well wrapped for several days.


Frosted Apple Sauce Raisin Bars

Ingredients

Cake
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/3 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups MUSSELMAN'S® Premium Apple Sauce
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup dark seedless raisins

Icing
1/4 cup butter
1 qt. confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl equipped with a paddle, mix softened butter on medium speed until creamy and light. Add brown sugar and beat until well blended.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating on medium until smooth. Stir in apple sauce.
  3. In separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, spices and salt. Add flour mixture to butter mixture and combine just until smooth. Stir in raisins.
  4. Pour batter into greased half-size sheetpan. Bake preheated 300°F convection or 350°F conventional oven for 20-25 minutes or until a food pick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from heat and cool on wire racks.
  5. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat butter for icing until lightly browned. Remove from heat and whisk in confectioners’ sugar and beat until smooth, adding milk as needed to produce a spreadable consistency. Stir in vanilla. Spread the icing evenly over the cooled cake and cut into 24 bars.
