Apple Streusel Bread

This basic dessert loaf is enriched with apples and a lush streusel topping to go with anything: as a breakfast accompaniment, sliced for sandwiches, or in the dessert basket for dinner. Sweet breads put a smile on everyone's face,this special recipe is no different.


3 loaves/24 slices bread
3/4 cup all-purpose flour plus flour for coating pans
3 3/4 cups packaged baking mix
1 Tbsp. apple pie spice mixture
6 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 1/2 cups (32 oz.) LUCKY LEAF® Apple Pie Filling
1 1/2 cups MUSSELMAN’S® Apple Sauce
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar, divided
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped toasted walnuts (optional)


Preheat oven to 350°F conventional or 300°F convection.
In a large bowl, combine baking mix, 3/4-cup flour and spice mixture; mix well. In another large bowl, whisk together eggs, apple pie filling, apple sauce, 3/4-cup brown sugar and 1 cup oil until smooth. Gently stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Divide batter evenly between three greased and floured 8" x4" x2" loaf pans.
In a small bowl, combine remaining 1/2-cup brown sugar and toasted walnuts (if desired). Top loaves evenly with sugar-nut streusel topping and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire rack for 15 minutes before removing loaves from pans. Cool completely on wire rack. Wrap and store overnight for easier slicing each loaf into 8 slices.
