Knouse Foods Introduces New trans Fat Free Puddings

Lucky Leaf Products Help Foodservice Operators Address Diners’ Desire to Ban Trans Fats

Peach Glen, PA, March 17, 2009 - Knouse Foods, an established fruit-grower owned cooperative, introduces a new line of Lucky Leaf® trans fat free puddings in both single-serve cups and 112 oz. cans. Available in vanilla, tapioca, butterscotch, banana and chocolate flavors, the new puddings are helping foodservice operators and chefs eliminate trans fat and offer healthier choices to patrons without sacrificing quality and taste.

According to Zagat’s 2009 U.S. Top Restaurant Survey, 69% of diners say low fat, heart-healthy food items are important and 65% agree that trans fats should be banned. Therefore, providing foods that consumers’ desire and promote health and wellness is a top priority for foodservice operations that want to continue to meet the needs of their customers.

“It’s our on-going commitment to provide products that help operators serve foods that are healthful and meet the highest standards for taste, quality and consistency,” said Todd Michael, Food Service Sales Manager for Knouse Foods. “With our wide assortment of product offerings, patrons can now enjoy all the foods they’ve come to love - worry free.”

Knouse Foods’ trans fat free puddings offer a heart-healthy alternative for foodservice operators in the commercial and non-commercial segments. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that trans fat significantly contributes to raised low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of chronic heart disease which afflicts more than 12.5 million Americans.

In addition to Lucky Leaf’s trans fat free puddings, Knouse Foods recently launched a new line of Musselman’s single-serve applesauces. Totally Fruit™ is naturally sweetened with fruit juice concentrate, contains no high fructose corn syrup and is available in apple, peach and strawberry flavors. Healthy Picks™ is made with antioxidant-rich “superfruits” pomegranate, cupuacu and acai, contains no added sugar and is fortified with a daily source of fiber, calcium and vitamin C. Healthy Picks™ applesauces are available in three unique flavors: blueberry pomegranate, key lime cupuacu and raspberry acai.
